Roof Inspection and 3D Mapping

Client:

Home Group

Brief:

To provide a 3D map and roof survey images for a Leasehold Retirement property managed by Home Group

Background:

Home Group is a housing association which employs an asset management software solution known as Integrator. This software was developed and is provided by Integrator Housing Solutions – a sister company of Integrator Drone Services.

How did we achieve it?

This particular leasehold retirement property is a low-rise block of 41 flats, built in 1989 and aimed at those aged 60 and over. Although Home Group were happy to use our services, we needed to gain the permission of each of the residents living there and help to allay any fears or worries they might have had about drone surveys. This needed to be done in a sensitive and understanding manner, alongside all of the other necessary legalities and risk assessments to ensure a safe flying day and effective results for Home Group. We were on hand at all times to answer questions and put minds at rest about what we were doing ahead of filming and on the day.

Paul was our drone pilot on the day and completed all of the leg work ahead of filming:

“Our pre-site survey gave us an opportunity to suss out the location and surrounding areas and understand where it would be feasible to take off. We also assessed all of the potential limitations, restrictions and other permissions that we would need to gather, not just that of Home Group. If we are in 50 metres of public spaces or other private buidings, then we will need to make them aware of what we are doing as well. We did this through a combination of prior requests in writing through Home Group and on the day requests in person.”

“Safety is the key element of flying a drone. We are always very careful about informing and watching people and making sure everyone is aware of going on. Before we take off we do a lot of checks – those for the drones themselves as well as potential crowd control. We ensure the drones themselves are functioning correctly. We have to make sure we have enough signal and communication. If anything is wrong then we cannot fly. We need to make sure that we are in complete control of the drone.”

Our photography on the day has enabled us to point out repairs needed to the roof as well as give Home Group a stunning aerial photograph of the entire building. Take a look at the images below to see a selection of the results achieved on the day.

We also produced a beautiful 3D model of the site for Homegroup.
